Additionally, from the 12 November, eight weekly services between Wollongong and Brisbane will also be offered, operating on a Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Mr Andrew Major, CEO of Fly Corporate, said he was very pleased to announce this exciting new addition to Fly Corporate’s regional network.  He noted that the service will not only facilitate direct travel to and from Melbourne and Brisbane, but also provide a convenient and cost-effective alternative to Sydney for people wanting to connect to other domestic and international destinations. The flights also provide a viable and practical regional service for the population centres surrounding the Illawarra along with personnel working in business related services throughout the region.

With respect to Melbourne, Mr Major went on to say that “we have chosen to operate this service utilising Melbourne’s Essendon Airport given its close proximity to the Melbourne CBD, lack of airport congestion together with economical car parking and City transfer options. For passengers inbound to Melbourne wanting to connect on to other domestic and international destinations, there is a free shuttle bus connecting Essendon and Tullamarine airports”.

Mr Major stated that he would like to thank Mayor Marianne Saliba and her team at Shellharbour City Council together with the many businesses and individuals who have encouraged Fly Corporate to re-establish Wollongong’s air service connection to Brisbane and Melbourne. Fly Corporate is looking forward to the opportunity of providing ongoing reliable, comfortable and economical air services for the Illawarra community and surrounding districts. The airline and Council are planning a joint launch to welcome the new service with details to be advised shortly.

Mayor Saliba stated “Council committed to reintroducing passenger services as quickly as possible and I’m very happy we have been able to deliver on that commitment. We have methodically worked through our due diligence procedures to ensure the best outcome and to protect the interests of the community. Corporate Air which operates the Fly Corporate services has been in business since 1972 and has demonstrated they have the experience and financial capacity to provide regular passenger services”. The Mayor said Council looked forward to working closely with Fly Corporate to ensure the successful reintroduction of services to Illawarra Regional Airport.

Mr Chris Cowan, CEO of Melbourne’s Essendon Airport stated “Fly Corporate is exactly the right airline to provide a reliable and regular service to connect Illawarra to Melbourne.  This direct service will save hours on a trip via Sydney and Melbourne Airport. We are currently in the process of a five-million-dollar upgrade to our terminal and are allowing plenty of extra space to cater for the anticipated growth of this important service”.
